I am now halfway through pregnancy and I am doing everything I can to make sure my baby has the best start possible. So much is beyond my control but I already love this baby and I am looking forward to meeting it in September.

How I did it: Perseverance. I wanted to give up so many times but after a while it started to fall into place. I still hate roundabouts though.I first started ten years ago but abandoned it because of the cost and I was distracted by University life. A year ago I decided to crack it and since then have a had a weekly lesson. I was never terrible, just nervous and hesitant and prone to silly mistakes. My instructor had amazing patience. I passed at the … Read how I did it…
How I did it: We have a futon next to a book case. I rolled the futon 2/3rds out and then built an A frame with cardboard tubes left over from the Christmas wrapping paper and masking tape. I uses a bit of copper pipe let over from a recent plumbing event to create a tent frame. i draped two duvet covers from the shelves onto my frame and hooked up the Christmas lights to light it all. How I did it: I didn't really. I tried; sometimes I failed, sometimes I didn't. I now have a routine though. I loved my French distraction whilst it lasted – I passed my end of year test and have a certificate to prove it. I might just be able to scrape by if I went to visit but that is probably the extent of where I needed to be. It was great to learn something just for the sake of learning it.
Earlier this year I finally took the plunge, found a new instructor and started lessons properly. I took my theory and hazard perception tests last week and passed so I am definitely on my way.
Driving isn’t my favourite way to spend time but I am probably past the point of no return now. I am due to go on my 18th lesson today and have covered most of the skills and manoeuvres. It is just a case of practicing and building my confidence and bravery at this point. I have discovered that I don’t like, roundabouts, parked cars and cyclists I but I do like straight open roads and reversing into a bay.
I hope to cross this goal off the list before 2011.
