apply Buddhist principles to my everyday life
Untitled

Start small. Try mindfulness meditation for 10 or 20 minutes a few times a week. Think of the humanity of the people you see on street, in the store, etc. Try to really understand where other are coming from. Work for peace.

become politically active
First of all...

...forget about political parties. They are the way to become politically paralyzed.

Go to a local city government meeting and find out what’s going on in your community. There’s always something that needs improvement and you can really make a difference.

shave my legs more often
Why?

I stopped shaving in 1990 and I’ve never regetted it!

love unconditionally. (read all 2 entries…)
Getting married

We got engaged, this way I can declare my unconditional love to the community and the government! Whee!

swear less
What's the point?

For about 3 months (while I was a candidate for public office) I tried really hard to not swear (or belch) in front of others. I literally never felt relaxed the whole time.

I know I am going to have to change my tune about this when I have kids, though.

exercise more
So far

I’ve been going to the gym for three weeks, about 3-5 times a week. Now I am sore all the time (good sore) and have gained a pound. :(

I wish I had a little more positive re-inforcement for this. I need a workout buddy.

cook at home
We're getting there...

Last week I made tempeh and spinach fajitas with pineapple rice!

get a treo
I love my Treo

They should be getting a bit cheaper soon…

Give away a bunch of clothes I've been meaning to give away for a long time
Not just clothes

I’ve got boxes of stuff in the attic and the hallway… it all needs to go!

Practice Yoga
Fell off the wagon

I used to do it once or twice a week but I got out of the habit. Now that I am working out regularly, I feel really stiff and I need it more than ever!

Whew!

OK, I worked on this for about 5 hours tonight and I made a lot of progress.

While we are waiting for Carnet to redirect the domain (ahem), you can find it at http://npo.lotusmedia.org

have everyone read the salon.com article that exposes what this 43things site is really all about
Untitled

But it doesn’t mean I’ll stop using it…

OK, seriously

When are gonna get to work on this, Kellan? Let’s have an IM meeting and see what we can do.

I feel awful about dropping the ball on this…

Become self-employed
Don't do it just because you hate having a boss

It’s a huge risk, but it can be quite rewarding. I did it for three years, but didn’t quite break even.

consume less caffeine
I guess...

Although I would like to cut down the caffeine, it’s really not as important as many of my other goals. It’s an addiction I can manage.

I have mostly switched from coffee to soda (which has less caffeine) but now I’m all full of sugar, yuck.

love unconditionally. (read all 2 entries…)
Especially Brian!

As a Buddhist, I always endeavor to feel loving-kindness to all beings. (Strangely this generally gets easier the less beings I have to interact with.)

But as me, I am personally doing my best to love a wonderful man, a socialist-artist-geek-blogger-lover. It’s much easier than I ever thought love could be. I give thanks for him everyday.

grow my own vegetables
Get back to the garden

I found eating food that I had grown from seeds or seedling incredibly rewarding. Plus it’s fresh and free of pesticides and no money or fuel was wasted to transport it to my house.

I need to get back into the garden…

Oh man

I really need to get my ass in gear on this one. Thanks for the poke, Kellan. Let’s talk more about this soon.

Have a fantastic New Years Eve
every year

My friends rent a beach house for the entire week including new years. It’s a mellow, 7-day party coming to a frenzied peak on December 31. It’s always fun and a great way to start the year. We have done this for the past 9 years!

stop procrastinating
I hate to say it but...

43 Things is my new favorite way to procrastinate!
