Hi everyone. I’m so excited because the little charity organizaiton I started finally has an official website! Please visit it at www.smallacts.info
I posted an add on craigslist, and a wonderful woman named Melissa built the website for me. I’ve already gotten several donations, and have been sending money to one family in Bath, Jamaica so two children can go to school, school books to several rural schools (including in the town of Nine Mile, where Bob Marley was born), and money for needed supplies in three orphanages in Kingston.
I am learning all the steps to apply for the 501 C-3, but need a little help from an accountant to do my taxes. If anyone knows of a tax professional who has experience working with small, non-profit agencies, email me at jeniffzim@yahoo.com.
Every small act makes a big impact. Bob Marley sang, “If you are the big tree, we are the small ax.” Things like poverty, hunger, AIDS, and violence are like that big tree, we just need to keep hitting it with our small acts.
Shalom ya’ll!
Jen

I really love the job I currently have, but I would really love to get a job at the University of Arizona. They offer a tuition break for employees, and my sons would also get a tuition break. I’ve put in two applications so far. Part of me is scared to leave my current job. I am very comfortable and have great benefits, but I would make the leap for a job at the University. One of my goals for 2008 is to get a job at the UofA that pays at least the same as I am making now (more would be great!)

I started a charitable organization this year and have been raising small amounts of money to aid children in Jamaica’s orphanages. I’ve put together a little board of directors, opened a business bank account and obtained a tax ID number. But in order to really make a difference, the acts need to have sustainability and measurable goals. I think it would be helpful to find an accountant who will donate services. I hope to have a website designed this year, and a 501 C3, and learn more about what it takes to make a NGO work well.
