More tools, more progress 2 years ago

I paid a membership fee for Flashcard Exchange – a huge collection of community contributed flashcards. (http://www.flashcardexchange.com/) Free membership allowed me to use it online, but now, as a full member, I’m able to download flashcards to my el cheapo Palm and use idle time to study some words.

implement GTD (read all 2 entries…)
Right tools did the trick 2 years ago

I found iGTD and since then practicing GTD became so easy and fun (toolwise..) so it’s almost a pleasure to review my projects and various actions. I have read David’s book from cover to cover few times now and almost every time I have found something new. Now when the runway-level tasks are pretty much under control, I’m focusing on the bigger picture – 10000ft and up. I’m pondering would it be useful to mix Covey’s 7habits stuff to this high-level planning.

meditate daily
I'm happy, it's a habit now 2 years ago

I managed to establish a positive habit :) Since beginning of the March (...I haven’t visited 43things for a long time – it’s a pity) I have ‘meditated’ daily at least 15-30 minutes. Mostly my practice is just sitting down and being quiet and still.

Back in square one 3 years ago

My training schedule has slipped and as a consequence my KBs slip in my hands… My strength is gone :( But little by little I’ll be back and beyond that fitness level I have lost due to my laziness.

Progress, finally! 3 years ago

I recently got secondhand Palm PDA and now I can recognize myself making progress in my long-term goal – fully implementing GTD. Before I have tried to implement GTD in the analogue way (with stack of index cards, filefolders etc.) without success. Most of my stuff is digital, so perhaps my trusted system (followers of David know what I’m referring to :) ) should be digital also.

Snatched that heavier bell! 4 years ago

Finally I had enough guts to try snatching the 26kg k-bell. Three days ago I tried and I did it – 4 times in a row with both hands separately :)
Now I set my goal to do 10 snatches in 3 sets (and in a good form).

Untitled 4 years ago

My first kettlebell was a small one weighing only 16 kilograms. Now I’m trying to master ‘middle-sized’ 26 kg kettlebell which I bought 6 months ago. I enjoy kettlebelling much more than machine-based weight training which I used to do before. My ultimate goal is to be able to handle 32kg kettlebell :)

speak english fluently
Practice, practice and practice 4 years ago

Pronunciation is the key. I have used to be very shy what comes to speaking english, even though I read a big pile of books written in English without any problems (mostly academic stuff). I have also been listening to audio books in English about a year now – recorded lectures and so on.

Now it is time for me to practice pronunciation. I’m currencly learning the phonemic system to be able to use my Collins Cobuild dictionary fully. I also record my speaking and then listen to my horrible pronunciation :) There’s no shortcut to fluency.

Headset for training oral language skills 4 years ago

After researching a while, I decided to buy Plantronics Audio 90 headset to be able to practice pronouncing both in English and in Spanish. I’ll use my headset to record my voice and to chat with native speakers using Skype. Internet is truly a wonderland for a language learner :)

Gee, I also noticed that by recording my speech I also might improve my speaking voice, which is also one of my goals.

My goal 4 years ago

My goal is to be fluent in Spanish in a time year from now. So, in the summer 2006 my goal should have been fulfilled :)

At first I’m going to use Pimsleur’s Spanish lessons and when I have built enough vocabulary I’ll find a voice chat pal from MyLanguageExchange.

run a marathon
My first marathon 4 years ago

I ran my first marathon at Kittilä, about 200km north from Arctic Circle and my former hometown Rovaniemi. It was at autumn 2003. Now I’m training for my second run and I’m planning to make it yearly tradition
