How I did it: I actually received my puppy as a Christmas gift, so I didn't go through the adoption process. However, I spent lots of time perusing the listings at petfinder.com. I have been wanting a puppy for years. My previous dog died in 2005 after 15 years and although I wanted another dog, I always convinced myself that the time wasn't right. I had excuse after excuse, but my boyfriend provided solutions for all my excuses… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Drew out my garden plans (a bit ambitious- 600 sq ft!), borrowed a friend's tiller, mixed in manure, went seed shopping, bought plants at the farmer's market, planted, watered, tried to keep the pests away and waited ... then I ate and ate and cooked away! Read how I did it…
How I did it: I think the most important part to finishing was learning how to ask for help and having a wonderful support system. I worked independently doing research that was very different from the rest of my lab and got my own funding. However, fellow grad students and post docs were critical for finishing.
