go to the opera (read all 2 entries…)
Finally!

After many obstacles I finally saw an opera! My parents got me season tickets to the Austin Lyric Opera. I saw Pagliacci and absolutely loved it. I also have tickets for The Marriage of Figaro and Faust.

At Guys

I should change this goal to smile more at guys. I am soooooooooooo bad at this, have always been. For some reason, the moment I think a guy is cute, I can’t stand to even make eye contact, let alone smile at him. ugh. how do I get over this? I tried to consciously do it at the supermarket today and it was a total failure!

reinvent myself (read all 2 entries…)
New City New Me

Now is the perfect time to accomplish this goal. I am moving to a new city away from everyone I know and love. I can be whomever I want to be which is such an exciting prospect. I just got my hair cut short for the first time, am buying a new wardrobe once I get to Austin (thrift store heaven!), and think I’m gonna make red lipstick a daily part of my routine. Now I just need to focus on the changes I will make on the inside. I really want to work to be more outgoing, something I have improved so much over the past couple years. I also want to focus more intellectually and spiritually. I have gotten into the habit of wasting my time on television instead of things that will actually improve my mind. Lastly and most difficult I need to work on how I act around guys. I’ve spent my life diverting glances and pretending like I hate the entire male gender because of my own insecurities. It is time to show the open and friendly self that I really am. So in a way I’m not really reinventing myself, just finally revealing the real me. :)

Stuck in Texas

This goal is not looking too good right now. I can’t even seem to get out of Texas. I’m trying not to let it bother me because I’m moving to Austin, which will absolutely be an adventure and I know is the right choice for me right now both career wise and socially. Still though I am disappointed with how easily I give up on traveling. I just don’t have the money and I am not brave enough to blow my money on a plane ticket and just go somewhere. I know all I need to do is take that first step, but it gets harder every time I try. I’m going to apply to the Peace Corps this year and I think I have a good chance of getting in. Maybe this will be just the thing I need to catapult me in to a life of travel.

94 down 6 to go!!!

Just watched Bringing Up Baby. I must say I love Katharine Hepburn more in a fun role like this than the uptight role of the African Queen. She made what would normally be an annoying character likable.

make 3 As this semester (read all 5 entries…)
I finally did it!!

woohoo!!! 3.6 GPA this semester meaning i got 3As in 3 main classes. yay! and my other two grades were B+s. In one of those I got an 89 and should had gotten an A.

Now my cumulative GPA is a 3.36 giving me one more semester to bring my GPA up to a 3.5 cumulative and I’m feeling good about it.

:) :) :)

have one completely epic night that i will always remember
Untitled

like the one’s they base entire movies around, with a group of friends or a guy or a group of random strangers, so spectacular that when i wake up the next morning I am completely unable to believe what just happened.

exercise (read all 5 entries…)
yay!

I started using Sparkpeople to track my workouts and have been doing their 5k your way program. I am currently in the 6th week, meaning I have done 6 successful weeks of running 3 times a week, and doing crosstraining and strength training 3 times a week. If I can, keep this up while at school, I will check this goal off!

eat healthier (read all 7 entries…)
I'm doing this!

I’ve started using Sparkpeople to track what I eat. I’ve been eating 5-7 fruits and veggies a day, avoiding sweets, and drinking 8 cups of water a day for about a month now. I’m going to wait until I go back to college to see if that messes me up but if I can can keep it up for a month after I get there, I will consider this goal accomplished!

half-marathon

signed up to do this half-marathon training with the dean of the school in august, meaning I need to be able to run 3 miles by then.

woah buddy thats a lot for the person who was the slowest girl in her kindergarten PE class but hey underdogs always triumph, right?

this means i’m gonna be running running and running. wish me luck!

also signed up for a YMCA membership for next year which always gets me off the couch because i hate wasting money more than anything.

make 3 As this semester (read all 5 entries…)
yet another semester has gone by and still. . .

okay so technically you could say I got 3 A’s this semester, but as usual PE classes don’t count!

But on the bright side I am definitely improving. I got A’s in two pretty tough classes and B+’s in place of my usual B-”s. all in all I got a 3.5 semester GPA which ain’t shabby.

two semesters left to achieve that golden 3 A semester and its gonna be a tough one, but if I’ve ever had any sort of epithet its the “comeback queen” so lets do this thing!

Find balance.
Untitled

I have always been a person of extremes with an all or nothing philosophy, but this attitude has produced some pretty ridiculous situations, because of my tendency to go too far. I always set unatainable goals and than instead of making the smaller I give up on them. And the things i have problems with, like food and love are problems of too much or too little. I think this will be a very important goal that will help me to acheive many of my other goals.

66 down, 34 to go

I just want to say that “Network” is probably one of the most brilliant movies i have ever seen, and has definitely made it into one of my top 5 favorite movies. Amazing acting! Faye Dunaway is so incredibly talented in this and in “Bonnie and Clyde”. But the best part was hands down the screenplay. The point that our lives have become a shallow mimicry of the television that we watch is so relevant today, especially with all the reality show trends that have developed. I can’t wait to watch it again, this time with a notebook in hand to write down all the quotes that I loved.
