I almost didn’t read this book. I have been hearing/reading for months how great this book is but based on the blurb on the back and uhm….the picture on the front cover….I had already decided that I didn’t like it. Well, I saw it at the library again and I checked it out. I’m glad I did. It was funny, depressing, and – of course – ultimately happy. I enjoyed it throughout and look forward to whatever Wally Lamb may offer in the future.

I think the best part of this goal, for me, on 43 things is all the great recommendations I’ve gotten. I always have a difficult time deciding what to read next and now I’ve got a whole list & am constantly adding…
Dark and surreal, this is a huge story. I love the detail Neil uses to describe the characters and set the mood of the book. I thought it got a bit slow in the middle but I pushed through and I’m glad I did. Thanks for the recommendation, Dave.
On a side note, I have already passed up my 2006 & 2007 totals for the entire year, so I am pretty proud of that. This year I will finish what I started (well…with this goal at least…).
