It was 2000, and a friend asked me to troubleshoot his linux firewall. While I was ssh’d in remotely (with root access), I took the liberty of setting up two cron jobs, one that ran “eject /dev/cdrom” and the other that ran “eject -t /dev/cdrom”, alternating every 5 minutes.
It took them more than a day to figure it out, and my friend’s roommate was convinced the machine had a virus, and unplugged it from the network.
Very hilarious, and I never, ever have had root on any of his boxes again:)

Mo has been using the toilet successfully for the past 4 months at least, without any accidents. After so much struggle, it’s nice for his bathroom struggles to not even be on the radar anymore. For him, the key was going really slowly, and smell. He really needed the smell of the litter. So I finally just removed the mixing bowl entirely, and sprinkled kitty litter liberally in the toilet bowl, particuarlly on the front lip in a little mound that he could smell and dig in. That was enough of a cue that he got the idea. It was also a crucial way of indicating that the toilet bowl was not for drinking out of (which he’s finally stopped doing).
He still gets to use a litter box at my folks (which he loves, to a fault), because they’re not sold on the whole toilet training thing. Coming back from there house and readjusting to the toilet is always rough.

I’ve been using svn exclusively for at least 6 months or so now, and have converted on client from cvs to svn. Totally worth it, though svn still doesn’t feel like the ultimate solution for version control. Merging is still way too hard.
