How I did it: I undertook the stage 1 qualification about 8 years ago. Prior to this I already knew some sign language as I have family members who are deaf. Last year I signed up for the stage 2 qualification. It is a real hike in levels from 1 to 2 and the linguistic information that you need to understand is pretty sophisticated, especially as we haven't been taught grammar in UK schools since the 70s. Read how I did it…
Stopped eating junk, started running. Sounds easy but something shifted in my thinking in April that allowed me to do this. I realised that it was ok for me to try.
I’m qualified. If I wanted to take this further I’d need to change jobs so that I was working using BSL daily. Think this is as far as I want to take it at the moment :)
