I think that happiness exists in many places, and it’s not about “finding” it…it’s about “recognizing” it. There are a great many things that make us happy momentarily, but the more enduring factors to happiness are actually pretty simple: being healthy, having enough (note: doesn’t necessarily have to be A LOT OF) money, having meaningful tasks to do, having interests or hobbies, and having people who love you. It is necessary to realize that no one is happy 100% of the time and that challenges, frustrations and worries are all part and parcel of life, and their presence does not mean that one’s life is totally UNhappy.

I’d like to do this in the next year. Having always been a sprinter/middle-distance runner, it isn’t going to be easy, but I’m gonna try. I did a “vertical marathon” once, which was a race to climb to the top of one of a really tall building…flights and flights and flights of stairs. Doing well in that was quite a feat considering I don’t even particularly enjoy the Stairmaster…it’s all about endurance. Hopefully I will run for a charity and my knees won’t be shot…
