I had been trying to get Renter’s Insurance, and was daunted by the amount of options out there, and all the plans available. I thought I should be paying around $250/yr, but all the quotes I kept getting were around $500.
Confused. Do I get special coverage for my computer? Camera?
Why is everyone else in my building paying around $250?
Then all of the sudden, I wake up and there was an email from Marketplace (the NPR show) asking if I just happened to be looking for renter’s insurance, and if so, would I like to participate in a brief survey for a show that they are working on. So I filled out the survey, and checked off the link allowing
them to use my information to help develop the story.
A few hours later, they called me up, and we made arrangements for them to come over and interview me for the show! They helped to itemize my belongings and document all of the things I have in the house.
What luck right?
Well I got renters insurance that week. I did only pay $240/yr.
You can listen to the story here:

I actually want to go again at some point! I need more of that feeling! It was completely worth it.
