buy a more fuel-efficient car
Bought a Prius - and love it! 21 months ago

The fuel economy is great (probably 45 mpg year-round average) and would be better if I lived in a warmer climate. It’s also a very comfortable car.

find / learn more kinesthetic input methods
I'm looking for... 3 years ago

something which is more efficient, ergonomic, expressive, or just more fun to use than my current devices. Being pleasant to look at and touch is also important. The possibilities seem endless and promising; there has been so much stagnation in computer input devices, at least in the mass market.

  • I have a Wacom tablet.
  • The Dvorak keyboard layout.
  • FingerWorks TouchStream.
  • User-designed keyboard layouts or overlays.
  • Gyration Ultra GT.
  • Apple Mighty Mouse
  • A trackball somewhat like this.
  • Trackpad innovations like the two-fingered scrolling on my iBook, but more possibilities?
  • A light-weight glove or something wearable that enables my fingers to function like an input device.
  • A touch-screen display, possibly with a light pen.
  • A Tablet PC, utilizing a stylus with pressure-sensitive input, handwriting recognition, tapping and gesture recognition, etc.
  • The perfected PDA – I had a Palm Tungsten T3 with Graffiti handwriting recognition and a miniature keyboard, but I didn’t use it.
  • The whole world of little gadgets. The Nintendo DS has a touch-screen. The iPod has its click-wheel. Smart phones.
  • Joysticks and game-like controllers also have their place. I have a basic USB controller called a Gravis GamePad Pro.
  • Stenotype machines, although I don’t know what application they have outside court reporting or transcription.

There’s a lot of options and ideas to explore!

play the harp
I'm proud that this is moving along! 3 years ago

A couple months ago, I drove to Denver and looked at a roomful of harps at Kolacny Music Store. I ended up buying a Dusty Strings Ravenna 26-string harp. I have loved it! Learning the hand positioning and patterns hasn’t been as difficult as I expected, and right now I can play a few songs fairly well from memory, the melody only and nothing fancy with my left hand.

“Over the Rainbow” was the first song I learned.

I have taken three lessons with a teacher in Denver, and one lesson with another teacher in Fort Collins. Now I’m in the predicament of deciding which I want to stick with, since I’m driving a fair distance from Western Nebraska, twice a month, for these lessons. I need to decide in the next day or two, as this coming Thursday is my next scheduled day. Tough decision.
