Well, there’s a long backstory to my latest exploratory trip to a new part of the country, but the Readers’ Digest version is this:
A few weeks ago I was invited to interview for a MSW position with a Dialysis company in Greensboro, North Carolina. Because of the awesome opportunity this position would entail, and because NC winters sound wonderful in comparison to MI winters, I decided it was worth a trip.
My dad and I did a roadtrip to Greensboro, and I got the chance to see three states I had yet to visit:
19. West Virginia
20. Virginia
21. North Carolina
Ooops! I forgot to post about this one! This was a nice easy read, yet chuck-full of convictions which make the reader think from the characters’ points of view about the majority of the community’s ignorance and same-ness. I could relate to the characters and, for the most part, empathize with their convictions. I also enjoyed the format of the book; each chapter surrounds the plot of one of the main 5 characters, yet the story maintains consistency through one point in time. The central character of John Singer, who is deaf/mute, and the other 4 main characters (all who befriend Singer as their confidant) are all a bit of outsiders and possess quite unique personalities/backstories. Combined with some unexpected moments, the characteristics of this book make it a definite worthwhile read.
