How I did it: Obviously, this goal is never really "done" - luckily, contributing to good causes is pretty easy to do.I've been volunteering at the Housing Works Bookstore in New York since January. All you have to do is sign up, attend a basic training session, and commit to a four-hour shift each week for three months (any less than that and you're actually just making things harder for them).Each week I show up, shelve books, haul boxes, ring people… Read how I did it…
since i started working at a bookstore i got better at dealing with fiction. for the first time in years i can think of five or so novels that i finished in recent memory.
on my plate right now are: the amazing adventures of cavalier and clay and infinite jest (yeah, a little light reading). i also have some easy books around to pick up in case i want to burn through something.
not every day was awesome, but i worked for the obama campaign, went to concerts on campus, saw my friends, made new friends, danced, drank, and even dated a sophomore. fun year!
