learn to be calm
I was not calm today

It’s one thing when someone at work doesn’t respond when you first ask them to. It’s quite another when it is clear that they are simply refusing. By the end of the day, I had to get a higher manager involved.

It’s just like dealing with the kids—-Why didn’t you do what I told you to. In this case, we’d actually had that discussion, very calmly, I should had, and came to an understanding… and then he still didn’t do it.

I did not go quietly into the night. I wish I had kept my composure a little better, though, although I did get him to finally do it.

Another step

Yesterday I ran 2.65 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill. That was at a 5.3 mile/hour rate. The goal is 5.4545454545… miles/hour. Just a little bit closer!

I can't wait for August...

I’m going to take most of August off. I have never taken this much vacation time in a row. I am so excited.

I’ve already cleared this with my boss. He thinks its a good idea. He knows how overtasked I have been these last few months. I really am grateful for his understanding.

Yeah!

I did it! Now for a new goal

Well, my running partner did not show up this morning, so I took the opportunity to run further and for more time. I ran for 1 hour and a little over 4 miles! Woo Hoo!

Now I need to change both goals. My new goals are to run 5 miles and to run for 1.5 hours.

I did it...now I'll change my goal

Well, my running partner did not show up this morning, so I took the opportunity to run further and for more time. I ran for 1 hour and a little over 4 miles! Woo Hoo!

Now I need to change both goals. My new goals are to run 5 miles and to run for 1.5 hours.

be able to touch the floor with the palms of my hands while standing up
It just takes practice and determination

Stretching doesn’t happen over night. You need to stretch many times a week, for many, many weeks to see tangible results. But if you do that, you will see results. I was in terrible shape when I started stretching as part of taking up Tae Kwon Do. On a good day now (I am over 40), I can touch my palms to the floor.

You can do it!

Making progress....

I ran 2.85 miles in 33 minutes today. That’s a 5.2 mile/hour pace. My goal translates to a 5.45 mile/hour pace. I’m getting there. My next treadmill run will, hopefully, be 30 minutes at 5.3 miles per/hour.

stretch enough to touch my toes
You can too!

I didn’t start trying until well into my thirties, and I was in lousy shape. On a good day, now, I can touch my palms to the floor.

Just a little bit faster

I ran for 30 minutes this morning, at a 5.2 mile/per hour pace – just over 11 min, 30 sec. per mile. I’m getting closer!

buy myself flowers
It's nice to have fresh flowers on the dining room table

I have a delivery set up once a month with the florist down the street. I support a local business and get beautiful flowers.

Run for one hour (read all 3 entries…)
well, 45 minutes

I ran for 45 minutes yesterday, in my neighborhood. I felt pretty good afterward, so I know I can run longer. However, I was just exhausted by the end of the day. Now I know why longer runs should be on the weekend, not during the work week.

weight train
I definitely feel stronger

I need to go get 15 lb weights. I started with 4 lb. weights. I am up to 12 lb. for most of the exercises, and I have graduated from 8 to 10 lb. for the remainder.

It feels good to feel strong.

I am lousy at this

There always seems to be enough work to fill up the time. Even when I take vacation, I end up making up the hours the next week. I managed to take 4 hours of leave this week, but that was only because I had to spend 3 of them getting my daughter to the doctor to have her arm diagnosed and put in a cast (she’s fine, and the break will heal completely and soon). I am sure that if this had happened in the first half of the pay period, I would have made up most of the hours in the second half. I just seem to have a mental barrier to using those hours. And yet, I’m exhausted. It makes no sense.

learn to use chopsticks
Definitely go for it!

I find the meal slows down and I enjoy it more when I use chopsticks. I don’t eat chopstick food that often because my young kids don’t love it, but I’ve found that I don’t lose my ability to use the chopsticks no matter how long it is between such meals.

get a black belt in tae kwon do

This goal seems easier than the others, because there is a plan already laid out. I don’t have to trail blaze, just follow the path. Oh, and figure out how to do a jump spinning wheel kick!
This one is also easier because I truly love doing TKD.

How do you make progress in this goal?

Thanks for any help you can give. I just don’t laugh much. Even as a kid, people would always tell me to smile!

learn to use more positive self-talk

I tend to be very negative in my self talk. This is a decades-old habit that will be really tough to break. I am capable of breaking this habit…I am capable of breaking this habit…I am capable of breaking this habit…..

This is as much a time issue as anything else. When I run during the week, its usually on a treadmill that others share. Also, I rarely have an hour to spend exercising during the week – other than Tae Kwon Do class. I do TKD on Saturdays, and run with a partner who is not yet up for running 1 hr on Sundays. Patience. She is gearing up for a 10 K in November, so we have to get there some time!

Have more dates with my husband

Too often, this is an after thought for both of us. We need to sit down and work out our calendars every 3 months and every month.

This has been a goal for a while. My new running partner is a little slower than me, though, so I have kind of put this one off. When I do get a chance on the treadmill, though, I try to go a little faster.
