I have begun the steps for this goal and I am extremely happy with my progress so far. Maintaining an active lifestyle can be difficult, but everyday I am able to get in at least ten miles or more riding my bike on my daily commute. And with the weather about to change over to Spring in a month, I don’t foresee myself doing any less until Pittsburgh becomes freezing cold again.

My yoga practice continues to improve with every session, and I have saved up my Teacher Training first deposit. When I am told to send it in, it will be sent in, and then my odyssey in Massachusetts will begin next year. This will hopefully help further guide me down the path to personal wellness.

In addition to my normal physical activity, I located a new primary care physician. Visiting his office was a little nerve-wracking since I hadn’t been to a doctor in almost six years, but his easygoing demeanor and friendly and helpful staff made everything so much easier.

Not only did I get a complete physical, but I actually sacked up and asked him questions I was concerned about (my dad’s diabetes, a possible testicular lump, etc.) and apparently I’m taking care of myself fairly well. Bloodwork was done to check my sugar and cholesterol and all of them came back as “good” in the mail, which was quite a relief since I should have had that checked a long time ago. Any worries I had about testicular cancer were unfounded as he gave me a check down there as well. Also, apparently guys my age do not need a colonoscopy till at least age 40, so that was good.

Finally, another overlooked and much-needed test was the old HIV/VD battery which I completed back in January. Not only did I go to the GLCC and get the HIV oral swab, which happily came back negative (phew!), but I booked an appointment at the County Health Department and got the HIV blood test, but also the assorted VD tests including the lovable Q-tip swab. All came back negative and I feel great!

Dr. Rydze also employs an in-house nutritionist named Sharon who has encouraged me in my health and fitness program. She gave me some helpful tips regarding my eating habits and prescribed a rudimentary workout routine. In addition to the free gym in my building that I signed up for today, I plan to implement some kind of light program at home.

I have shed about 30 pounds in the last year or so, and I plan to continue to develop and strengthen my body in the upcoming year. This is a very fulfilling goal to post an entry about, so thanks for reading!

Next step: find a new dentist.

I’ve blown through quite a few books since creating this goal and I think I am on course to continue reading at a level I can be happy with. Finished Youth, Yoga, and Reincarnation last night and I’ll hit the library up again today.

find a new apartment
I did this! 21 months ago

I found a boss joint that just so happens to be my friend Roxanne’s old apartment. I checked it out Saturday and I love it. She will let her landlord know and hopefully I can jump right in there on move in day. But I’m glad I don’t really have to look anymore.
