eat 3 meals a day
Untitled 2 years ago

So I put this on my list because I’ve had a tendency to either forget about eating all together or deciding I don’t have enough money to buy food when there are other things I need. I’ve made it a point now to actually go grocery shopping once a week and since then I’ve been eating 2-3 meals per day. Massive improvement already.

listen to more music.
So I've always listened to heaps of music 2 years ago

so this is more about deversifying my collection. I’m getting 2 albums per week and I’m only letting myself get any one genre once a month. Hopefully, I’ll soon be on my way to an ridiculously varied iPod.

do a suspension
1 month to go 2 years ago

I first talked about doing this about 3 years ago and I just now found someone experienced and willing to do it for me at a time when I have the money. I’ve given myself 2 months to prepare myself for it, with a warm up on July 13th. It’s going to be excellent.

spend less time on the internet
I've figured out the secret to this is... 2 years ago

to not have the internet at home! I just moved down to New Zealand to live with one of my friends for the year and we don’t have the internet where we’re staying. As a result, instead of spending the nights sitting in front of a screen, we’re hanging out with friends, playing games, fixing meals, listening to music and enjoying each other’s company. It’s pretty much amazing.

I just decided to pack up my life in a backpack and move to the opposite side of the world for a while. Everything I own is now in a backpack and a camera bag since I told my parents and friends that anything I left in my room was free game and I expected it all to be gone before I got back home. Now it’s just time to kick back, relax, find some part time work and enjoy the New Zealand summer.

Quit Smoking (read all 2 entries…)
Untitled 2 years ago

So I figured out why I can’t quit. I just have no real motivation to do so. Plus, I just moved to New Zealand where rolling a cigarette is like a sport down here. So I’ve decided to accept my fate as a smoker for the time being. Maybe I’ll feel the motivation to quit somewhere down the road.

Failing with flying colours. 3 years ago

I couldn’t bring myself to toss out the rest of the carton and have been telling myself I’d quit once I ran out of cigarettes. While this has come in handy since I’ve managed to cut down A LOT (My brain’s like ‘Oh no! I only have 3 packs left to last forever! Gotta ration…’) and I’m down to my final pack now, it’s been frustrating since it’s shown me how addicted I am. Soon. Very soon this goal will become a reality.

Stretch my ears

I did this during my freshman and sophomore years of high school. A few years later, they’re still in, still looking good and still carrying random items around in them. I can’t really imagine myself without the holes.

Everything's lined up. 3 years ago

I officially have my work visa for New Zealand which is good through December 1, 2007. I have my one way plane ticket, my place to live and job lined up. I say goodbye to America on January 9th and have no idea on when I’m coming home. I plan on going to Australia and working there for a bit after my New Zealand visa expires and then head up to Asia for a couple years and go see that part of the world. Beyond that, who knows. Seeing the Olympics in Beijing could be cool though.

I have a blog set up if ya wanna follow along since I don’t know how much I’ll really be on the internet any more so 43things could take a back seat.

Everything's gotta go. 3 years ago

I’m moving to New Zealand next month and don’t really have any intentions of coming back to America afterwards. That means I gotta figure out what I want to take with me and what I’m willing to leave in the past. I also need to figure out what I can sell and what I can’t. It’s going to be a long process, but hopefully I can have it done in the next week or two so I can throw stuff on eBay and get some cash in my pocket before I hop on that plane.

Time for the next adventure. 3 years ago

For those of you who remember my posts on backpacking Europe, I’m back in the States now due to a lack of money. Tonight I have a job interview at the Hookah Lounge and I submited my work visa application for New Zealand this morning. Hopefully I’ll be in New Zealand for all of 2007. I’m working full time while I’m there and saving most of it up. Why? To go on an epic backpacking quest clear across Asia, through the Middle East, through Eastern Europe and ending up in Amsterdam. It wasn’t until recently I realized how much I miss that city and I’ve decided to definitely go back for a while. I’m looking forward to the trip there as much as I am about my time there. It’s going to be awesome.

Join the Peace Corps
So I decided not to go to college for a while 3 years ago

And now I’ll no longer qualify to enter the Peace Corps. So I’ve given up this one and will go do some work in Africa with another organization who isn’t worried about my ability to get a degree.

I’ve decided to give up smoking. Makes it hard to blow smoke rings, eh?

All good things must come to an end. 3 years ago

So I’m officially bankrupt in Europe due to my bank not telling me they were going to charge me $200 in the middle of the night. My friend wired me enough money to get me through Belgium before I reach some other friends in Germany I can stay with as I start working on transferring my flight home to a month early. It may have been cut to 2 months instead of 3, but it still is the single best experience of my life.

backpack through Europe
So I'm currently in Austria... 3 years ago

I left America on Sept 12th and I’m here until December 15th. It’s been the time of my life. I’ve learned a lot about myself and life in general. Like when I ran out of money in Amsterdam and ended up spending a few nights on the street and then found a job and made it so I could afford to keep on going. The people here are amazingly nice and will help you out as long as you seem nice enough. This has definitely been an experience that will change my life.

Since everyone seemed interested in my Eurotrip 3 years ago

I figured I’d update. I left Amsterdam to go to Prague for a weekend. And then I missed my train back to Amsterdam and I’m far too impatient to wait 10 hours for another train. So I hopped on the next train out of Prague, which took me to Warsaw. So now I’m in Poland off the money I saved in Amsterdam. I called my boss back in the Damage and he was like ‘And that’s what I get for hiring a bunch of travellers. Have fun.’ So my Eurotrip is underway again, until I run out of money once more. I just hope I make it to Interlaken, Switzerland because I really wanna go skydiving over a mountain. It sounds sweet. This is going to be a fun book to write once I’m done.

So I ran away to Europe 3 years ago

Without much money at all and started a 3 month tour. A month into it, I end up in Amsterdam totally out of money. I managed to find myself a job and a place to live, still living out of my backpack, saving up and moving on to Rome next month to start over again there. It’s definitely an adventure.

I went and got my bridge done last night. I like it. It’s a quest to see how long I can keep it in before it rejects.

35 pounds gone. 3 years ago

I worked at a summer camp for the past 3 months. The food was horrible so I lived off the fruit and vegetables. Next thing ya know, I get home, get out of the shower and I’m like ‘Man, I look a lot skinnier.’ And then I weighed myself at a whole 205 pounds instead of the 240 I left at. Now I’m just trying to maintain the same type of diet I had at camp while still running around when I can to keep it going. It’s well worth it.
