that is #4 on my list of “Things I did when I thought I had nothing left to lose.”
Since items #1-3 didn’t turn out so well, I have to ask myself “What was I thinking?”

One of my college roommates was a woman named Christa. She didn’t introduce me to Frida Kahlo’s works, but she loved them so much it piqued my interest. Christa had a strong physical resemblance to Frida (dark hair, heavy eyebrows, intense dark eyes), and, like Frida, was spiritually wounded, but still a fighter and survivor.
I never knew what had happened to Christa to cause such emotional pain, but it was always with her. My bf at the time and I often speculated that there might have been childhood sexual abuse or other trauma. Christa herself said that people (including her mother and sister) frequently asked her about it, but said she didn’t think so. (This was at the time when “repressed memories” were first being discussed in the media.)
After Christa graduated, we exchanged a few letters, but I haven’t heard from her in many years. Every time I see a picture of Frida Kahlo, or one of her works, I think of Christa.
I saw this piece in the museum in Delphi. It is known as the “omphalos” (navel) stone, which marks the center of the world.
