quit drinking
how do i survive college??? 2 years ago

I started drinking when I was 13, but it was only me and my other badass friends. We only drank a few times a year, but everytime we did, we’d get blackout and drink way too much. Usually, some pretty sketchy things would happen (never to me, but to my friends), and I’d feel bad about my drinking…lying to my friends and relatives, etc.

When I got to college 2 years ago, it was awesome because everyone drank and drank a lot. I’d drink every weekend and I’d black out a lot or make out with friends and strangers. I got into an a cappella group and we get drunk and high at all of our parties. I’ve been in therapy for over year for other reasons, but after coming back from a weekend of drinking and smoking with some friends (and making some really bad mistakes) we both reached a conclusion that I’m an alcoholic, which really freaks me out because I’m only turning 20 in august. I’m not even legal but I’m an alcoholic.

What I’m worried about is what am I going to do when I return in the fall to all the people who know me as a party girl? how do i tell everyone that i quit drinking without telling them why or having them pressure/pity me? My whole social life is about partying. It’s too bad that that’s what college is about, but I don’t want to sit in my apartment doing nothing because I’m too afraid of going to a party and drinking too much. Once I start, I can’t stop and it’s always all or nothing. How am I going to make it through the next 2 years?
