I have my learners permit!! My bf and I did the full day course today and we both passed :-) I’ll admit it was touch and go for me for a while… mid way through the course the instructor had a hissy fit and told me I was going to fail, but I pulled through at the end and didn’t make a single mistake on the test. I’m still too slow taking off but I’m getting there… My bf was absolutely fine of course and passed with flying colours.

How I did it: I volunteered with world youth initially and they spent 2 days with us in Kathmandu acclimatising us to life in Nepal... After that we were dropped with our host families (mine being the principal's family of the school I was volunteering at) and we were on our own! Spent a lot of time in the local community getting to know the kids, the families, the way of life... Some travelling on my days off and embracing all opportunities that came … Read how I did it…
How I did it: Flew into Lukla... 5 days up, 2 days down... A really nice hike, not too strenuous - though keep off the 'glacial detours' for a gentle walk. Went at the end of the hiking season - start of the monsoon and was stranded in Lukla (no atms!) for 4 days at the end of the trek. Carried all our own gear and maps and stayed in guest houses all the way up. Very well marked track. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Started at the 5th station around 10pm - dropped off by the fabulous Mochan from couchsurfing.org - climbed slowly to the top amidst rapidly deteriorating weather until we stopped at the second last station for shelter before ascending to the summit at sun rise. Was absoluely freezing, rain, hail, snow, high winds, no visibility - was nothing to see at all at the top, but somehow it was very sastisfying to sit around shivering and drinkin… Read how I did it…

My first recipe from “Great Vegetarian Food”...
Mini pappadums with curried egg was a super quick and easy recipe… Turned out to be a little salty – perhaps better with softer chapatis instead of pappadums but a tasty entree!
Trained up and made it half way around this year – 100km!
A really good day actually… was a bit tired around the 70km mark but a quick snack and lots of water and we perked right back up :-)
Looking forward to the 210km next year!
