I’m in a great apartment now and I’m secretly wondering if I really want a house. Is it too much work for me? Do I really want to spend my weekends mowing the lawn and fixing plumbing problems? The tax advantages would be nice, but wouldn’t any money saved there go straight into home maintenance? Real estate isn’t even a great investment vehicle these days.

How I did it: Picked an apartment near a train station and near tons of friends. Made sure the apartment complex had plenty of good reviews online. Then it was just sign the lease, and pack up my old place. Read how I did it…

I noticed that I come home and go straight to the sofa. I’ll spend the rest of the evening loafing around. And even when I get up the energy to do something active, I spend half my time finding my sneakers, digging out sports equipment, or moving the furniture out of my way before I can even begin.
First steps: create open space for indoor exercise. Rain is no longer an excuse. “Only have 5 minutes” is no longer an excuse.
Okay…day two of my commute and the transit system goes on strike. Some trains are still running but all subways and buses are down. So I have to walk the subway route until I reach the train terminal, but hey, its good exercise. A little harder to swallow is the train trip taking twice as long to get me home. :(
