Living here at the moment :-)) 3 years ago

It’s a great place! I’ve been living here for 18 months and love it. I didn’t even know where it was on the map 20 months ago. :-)

People are friendly, the weather is great (for me), long sunny summers and long freezing cold winters, & lots & lots of snow :-)))

Learn to DJ
Well worth the effort, but say goodbye to all your dough! 3 years ago

I did this a few years ago, I went to lessons, which was a good use of time, and learnt to beatmatch, as well as scratch like crazy.

I’ve since DJ’d a load of parties, some bars etc and even earned a bit of cash at it. The only downside is that I spent a fortune on vinyl (I’m not really into CD’s as I like the scrathcy side of life). Now it’s a great skill, as whenever I have back to mine’s I can dig crank out the tunes, the only bummer is that it’s hard to be sociable when you are on the decks!

One word of advice, if you go for turntables, don’t waste your money on belt driven decks. They don’t have the oomph to keep the pitch correctly when you are beat matching. Oh, and another bit, try to buy a mixer with ‘kill’s on the EQ (i.e. you can take the bass/mid/treble right down) This can be useful if you are screwing up a mix, and need to whip the bass drum out of one track so it doesn’t sound like a one man band falling down the stairs.

Good luck! It’s the door to mucho fun!

by the way the pic is not of me, but Supergreg, the world’s no.1 DJ god!

resist consumerism (read all 3 entries…)
Musical Instruments don't count 3 years ago

OK, I’ve come to a decision. I’m excluding musical instruments, as they aren’t ‘consumed’, and are actually a way of spending time not praying at the altar of consumerism. Sure, it’s a flimsy way to defend myself, but what the hell!.

Also allowed are books or any money spent on education, e.g. my Russian lessons!

Still very much on the list is crap I don’t need or even want!
