I have 3 bank accounts with overdrafts. Tomorrow, I get the first payment of a Professional Development Loan which I am using to pay off 2 of those accounts (the 3rd is with the bank giving me the loan). This will mean my £1000 debt, my £1,500 debt and my £1,800 debt plus a store card of £250 will be consolidated in a debt of £5000. I needed to do this because I will be studying for the next 4 years—I cannot afford to pay those debts off as I go along, so instead I have this loan to pay them off now & then that will be due back (with interest) once I graduate. The interest sucks, but I am training to be a doctor so I am practically garuanteed to walk into a job when I graduate, and will therefore be in a position to pay it off. Compare that to now, when I cannot afford the payments I need to make without this loan. It’s not ideal but it’s OK.

How I did it: It took me ages. I decided to do it, and sat there deleting emails for about an hour. I started with the ones that were oldest - I discovered that these were generally ones that I'd previously decided to hold on to for various reasons, mostly sentimental. Mistake #1! I sat there mostly just reading through the emails & reliving old memories, not getting much done.My second attempt at knuckling down took me from 94 pages to 50 pages an… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Every time I found myself with free time I made a concious effort to hunt down my book and read some more! I also remembered to take it with me on the tube, to fill up time I would otherwise have spent staring into space! Read how I did it…
I have done it!! I hovered around 50 pages for months after my last effort (detailed in my last entry) but today I spent a few more hours and was really ruthless. I deleted some folders, added some new ones, read a lot of stuff that I could then get rid of and finally, my account has NOTHING in the inbox.
Fantastic.
This seems to be something I’m getting better at without consciously trying—the more time I spend with my room tidy, the more I notice when it’s not & the more frustrated I get with it… the faster I tidy up! I’ll never be a complete neat freak, but I’m fairly close to achieving a long-term state of reasonable tidiness so I’ll review this in a few weeks and consider declaring it DONE! :D
