Will be travelling this summer, so won’t be making any payments, so despite all the payments I have made I will almost be back to where I was a year ago (out of $3000, $2000 is just yearly interest! What is the point? I am most likely going to have to support my parents in their retirement, save for my own retirement, pay a mortgage, and I would like to be able to help my children with their tertiary education. I could go on and on about the gender wage gap etc etc… Our government has been so short sighted when it comes to education)! I have to keep reminding myself not to think about it – there is no point wasting energy on this frustration. I have my education, the government can fine me but it can’t actually chase me down and throw me in jail for not making repayments, and the debt is cancelled if I die before repaying it. And I really want to travel this summer.

I am doing this now. It’s pretty easy to talk to my (really nice) tutor, but not so easy to understand & take part in day to day conversation. I can get by fine travelling (directions, food etc) but I want to actually be able to converse.

Now we have only 2 elements, no oven, and this is still something I want to do. Since we are living in one room, now I have to think about what the clothes, bedding and towels will smell like the next morning!
