I not only have a job again, it is very much within biking distance, though I haven’t done it yet. It’s about a 20-minute walk and less than 10 minutes on the bus. The only problem is making sure the bike doesn’t disappear when I’m in the office

How I did it: I utilized online resources/communities. From livejournal I found my photographer, a then grad-student who was building her portfolio. Communities also helped with tips on how to save money, informed me about options for many aspects (including how to deal with the parental units). Read how I did it…
Supposedly, the average cost for a wedding in my area is close to $30,000. That’s a crapload of money. Even if I did have $30k, I’d rather spend $5k on the wedding and use the rest as a down payment on a home.
I think I may be able to pull it off (+/- $1000). My mom’s a deacon, so we can use her church for the ceremony and reception for “no charge” (except for a donation to the church). She also offered to bake the cake (she’s already done so for her friend’s daughters; she just needs to enlist her friend to do the icing). I’ve been eyeing some $500 dresses at David’s Bridal, but I could get a $150 dress from Lane Bryant instead. Flowers? We may go artificial (won’t trigger my allergies) for the centerpieces and altar flowers (still want real ones for the bouquets/corsages). Michael’s (fabric store) will arrange them for free if we buy them there. My old neighbor owns a printing company, so we can probably get a decent deal on the invitations. The biggest budget-breakers will most likely be the photography and the food. Once I meet with the pastor and set a date, we’ll start looking into those.
I requested tickets back in May, and I’m supposed to go on Wednesday 7/26. I’m kinda worried about how early I should get there. The email said that the doors open at 4:45, and suggested that you arrive 1 to 1 1/2 hours early. But, they also say that there’s no guarantee you’ll actually get in. Is 3:00 too late or too early? I dunno why I’m freaking so much about it, at least I’m a local. (Also wondering who the guest will be…)
