but about 13 years ago owned a little scooter. It was somehow less scary than trying to maneuver a huge hunk of metal around, because when you stop, your feet are right there on the ground…
Of course, it was stolen and I never drove again. I have still never had a license. But after moving and losing out on a job because I didn’t drive, the time has come again…and, coincidently, I found the same cute scooter (honda Elite 150, goes 65) for sale on craigslist. We just bought it last weekend, and I’m studying for my permit. As soon as I get that, I’m signing up for TEAM OREGON classes…anyone taken these? They’re motorcycle lessons, and I’m pretty excited…still scared, but getting excited!!

I didn’t realise there were 43 versions of the same goal on this site…I’m new to it…for anyone interested in this topic, see my long-winded story in “overcome my fear of driving” and please, any any advice of how to do this is more than welcome! : )
Part deax. SO, I didn’t get hired because I didn’t have a drivers license. I was really mad, embarrassed, upset…humiliated! My boyfriend said that maybe I had experienced what it felt like to be black…at first I thought that this was a ridiculous thing to say, but then I guess it did make sense. At any rate, I went back to square one, looking for employment. As luck would have it, I found another position exactly the same as the first one had JUST opened up at another company, so I applied for it. I told them right off the bat what had happened at the other interview. They were SO nice and said they were able to think outside the box, and that although it would be better if I drove, they’d be glad to employ me! I was soooo relieved, and the feeling of being a freak started to diminish. I went through the process and was hired, and the night before I started, I got an email from the first jerks that rejected me…telling me they still hadn’t found anyone, and would I like a “junior” position, helping them out for the time being, for much less money….It was the best feeling, writing them back and telling them they MISSED OUT! Anyway, since then I have felt soo positive that I think I’m ready to try to learn…after 36 years! I had had a scooter about 13 years ago, and I wasn’t TOO afraid of it, so just this week, by “chance”, found one of the exact same model on craigslist…it’s so cute! A red Honda Elite 150. We bought it last weekend, and I’m studying for my permit. Next, I’m signing up for classes called “Team Oregon” where you can learn to ride and also not have to take the test at the DMV..only lame part is that I will still have to get a regular license…which still scares me silly. I hope learning to ride the scooter will help….
