Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

take a vacation (read all 2 entries…)
I need a vacation.

I need a vacation away from my current environment and work. I feel emotionally and physically drained. I’d like to go away out west in the spring 2009, if financially possible. A short getaway during the days after Christmas would be nice too. Last year, I went to Arizona for Christmas. I really looked forward to it, although family issues put a damper on the whole event. However, it was still by far the best vacation I ever had.

SHED program

I purchased the audio book SHED Your Stuff, Change your Life by Julie Morgenstern. It’s a 4-step program to help you identify areas of your life that are holding you back, and how to shed unneccessary stuff. Sounds good so far. I’m hoping it will provide some more insight into my life.

Sell my crafts at a craft show (read all 2 entries…)
Starting to Look

Today I attended the Country Folk Art craft show. It seems like it has gone down in quality over the years. I don’t think I’ll enter that show. However, I also attended a small Christmas craft show at a church today. I spoke to the coordinator of the event, and I gave her my contact information. I will apply for a space next year.

Sell my crafts at a craft show (read all 2 entries…)
Going to a craft show today.

I have always wanted to make something that could be sold at a craft show. My dream is to exhibit and sell my crafts at a major show, such as the Sugarloaf or the Country Folk Art craft shows. I’m attending one today to get some inspiration.

Last night, i had a great dream. I had the opportunity of a lifetime to study and work under an accomplished doctor. She was not within my field of work, but I was excited to be offered the opportunity. I felt so excited and happy.

I want to feel that excited and happy about my current work.

Finally got paid.

I finally received payments due to me from one of my clients. I am planning to make payments toward each of my debts. Got to take care of the immediate bills first. It’s so easy to splurge on something, but I’m not. I’m putting 10% in savings, and paying down these bills.

Stop picking my fingers (read all 8 entries…)

I’ve been under some stress, and not feeling well. The picking has increased. I still don’t pick as long as I used to. However, I can do better.

Taking Care of Business

This week I told one of my clients (a school district) that if they don’t pay the money owed to me by the end of next week, I will discontinue services for them until the bill is paid. This school has not paid me for work I’ve done since September. My road to financial independence will be easier without this hassle!

stop eating fast food (read all 4 entries…)
A Fast Food Weakness

I eat fast food, but not as much as I used to. There were days while in college I ate fast food for every meal.

I still want to drop this habit. Since I’ve also made goals to simplify my life and reduce waste, the fast food habit has decreased. Just the amount of trash produced from a fast food meal is discouraging to me. I don’t buy take-out soda cups anymore. I eat inside the fast food place to avoid the paper bags and extra garbage. And when I do eat inside, I look in the kitchen area and notice the uncleanliness of the place…and slowly but surely, fast food is losing it’s appeal.

I admit, I like my Big Mac and fries. But if I replace these foods with something more appealing and healthier, it will be worth it in the long run. If I’m really craving a fast food meal, I’ll make my own burger and fries at home.

Fall in love (read all 5 entries…)
Online dating is a bust

I have met and dated several people online, with no success. I don’t feel this is the best option for me. I had a recent conversation with a young man who seemed so desperate for a relationship. He was just laying it on thick! He just talked a good game. It was like he was just saying what he thought a woman wanted to hear. It was very annoying to me.

Most people I’ve talked with say they met their mate when they least expected it. They weren’t actively looking for someone, but it just happened. Perhaps that will happen for me too.
