Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

- The Robots.

Tennis

Played a little tennis the other day with my dad and brother. It was fun. I hadn’t played for many, many years.

Kites for kids

My cousin started Kitegang, a non-profit organisation aiming help children and their families in urban slums, rural communities and refugee camps around the world. They do great things for children and communities adding some hope and inspiration to children who know only threats.

Have fewer possessions. (read all 2 entries…)
I might just...

...try to pawn some of the DVDs off to friends. This isn’t as ideal as donating to a library where more people could profit, but it does get rid of some quickly and with little effort.

Have fewer possessions. (read all 2 entries…)
A few things:
  • DVDs
  • CDs
  • books
  • clothes
  • all the other junk that I don’t use or is useless

In theory, I’d like to sell things like the DVDs and CDs because the extra cash would be nice. But I’m a bit too lazy to make the effort. I might just end up donating them to a library. I’ll definitely give the clothes away. For the rest, I’d like to throw it all away (even if I hate the idea of adding to a big landfill and the modern and wasteful buy-and-throw-away life-style). It’s still the easiest and quickest solution.

race sheep
The difficulty is...

...that sheep don’t run in a straight line. If they think you’re getting too much side by side, they turn. You feel more like a lion chasing water buffalo. And then you just look stupid chasing after sheep.

Run, hike, walk

I went for a sort of run/hike/walk. I went up and over the foothill, exploreed a bit on top and came back down. The weather was sunny and beautiful. I even took my shirt off a bit to take advantage of the Welsh sun. Lots of animals: sheep (of course) with their lambs, cows, their calfs and horses.

Unfortunately, I didn’t bring a camera. There were a few nice shots missed.

I’ve had good and bad dreams about this. But there are plans to do the good ones in March (or May, I can’t remember which one right now).

I’ve placed The Gay Science in the bathroom now. Given its short entries, it makes for good bathroom reading.

And a pretty good price too.

4 days before leaving, I wasn’t sure what type of fares I’d find. But the last resort site turned out to be great. I do have to fly through San Francisco, though. But it’ll be worth it.

It promises to be a great weekend for a bachelor party with old college buddies. There are prizes to be won! The always present “Donkey Award” and the coveted “Gauntlet” – an epic contest of mind, body and spirit.

Took the bike out today.

A nice ride. Exploring a bit through wet, muddy terrain, streams, sheep and horse excrement. I managed to fall too! Not in the excrement, though.
