Help end racism
As the world matures... 2 years ago

Racism will disappear – or humanity will.
Of all the discrimanatory “isms” I hate racism the most as I suffered from it. Not as a victim but as a small minded little englander. I grew up in a very “white” environment and credit Bob Marley for making me realise, at 13 or so, how stupid racism is. I’d have realised its stupidity anyway, I hope, but Bob’s music gave me a push in the right direction.

collect and donate scarves, socks, hats, mittens and blankets for the homeless
To a very limited extent I do this already 2 years ago

I donate my old clothes at the local food bank I’ve started helping at. However I shall make an effort to increase their supply of clothes as you’ve prompted me into an idea. I shall be volunteering on a regular basis for my local Oxfam shop in the New Year – I’ll check what they do with unwanted clothes etc.

go on safari
Well worth it 2 years ago

I’ve done this several times in Kenya and once in South Africa. It’s fantastic to see animals in the wild – so much more “real” than a zoo. Though I like cats and loved seeing (for example) lion cubs with their pride my favourite experience was with hippos. We stayed one night in a reserve about halfway between Nairobi and Mombassa. Our tents (with bathrooms and real beds – luxurious tents!) were next to a large stream leading to the lake the hippos spent their days in. At around 5am we sat on our verandah and watched as around 30 hippos, in single file apart from the mothers with calves, lumbered and splashed their way past.
