Do you want to get assaulted? Yes? Then prison is the place for you! Don’t worry about the introductory wing, it’s almost like a dysfunctional 6th form college with no natural light. They have table tennis and vague promises of education. Once you get transfered to the main wings it’s a fucking zoo. A bloke got raped at knifepoint the night before i moved into ‘B wing’. Fights happen all the time. Love doesn’t have the final word, aimless power backed up by violence does, and 70% of UK prisoners have diagnosable mental health disorders, if that’s the framework you want to look at them through.
Please don’t go there
Edit: I may have put accross an unhelpfully sensationalist picture. My experience is very limited, having only spent a fortnight inside, but there were things which seemed to help. Don’t hate anybody in there or make them an object of your apprehension, do treat everyone as well as you can and try to understand them, and do stay positive. There are no guarantees at all, but staying calm rather than terrified and trying to help people out or make friends will help.
