I started scribbling down thoughts and memories about this a few months ago, when I got an appointment with the uni’s counselling service. I wanted to scribble things down about my relationship with my parents, and other things that might come up, in case the catharsis of counselling robbed me of the urgency and vitriol to write it down and write it fresh.
As it turns out, I ended up giving over my appointment time because I didn’t feel the need for urgent counselling, and near exam time I knew there were people who would benefit more from it. I have kept on writing about this, but it’s a slow process; I don’t want to open the door too wide at once, only to find I can’t shut it again.

Do well in my first year of university (read all 8 entries…)
One down, three to go! 3 weeks ago

I passed my first year. I don’t have all my module results yet, but it’s looking like I’ll get a high 2-1 (unless a minor miracle occurs with my pragmatics coursework). I won’t get anything lower, in any case, as I managed to scrape just above 60% in French which IS nothing short of a miracle.

I came to uni, I made friends, I didn’t have a breakdown, I didn’t drop out (temporarily or permanently), I joined societies, I spent a lot of time in greasy spoon cafés, I didn’t party TOO much….. and I will do it all again from September!

SUCCESS!

I’ve asked my friend Jimmy to teach me to surf this summer in exchange for crashspace in Bangor and plenty of beer :D
