I decided to write a book while I was stranded on the East Coast after 9/11. When I got home I pondered what the heck to do with the book. I researched, and discovered print on demand publishing. How cool. So, I published, sold a few copies, and went on my merry way.
Marketing is a whole different beast. Since then, I delved deeper into the publishing world, created a web site dedicated to writing and publishing, and learned everything I could about non-traditional marketing approaches, mainly using the Internet. I’m still learning, and although I don’t have any immediate plans for publishing my own books, I’ve helped a few others get published, and that feels really good.
By all means write your books! There is a ton of help out there to get your book published, and once you do, there’s even more help to get it marketed. But, beware! You have to WORK at the marketing. Marketing a book is almost a full time job, so if you take it lightly, you’ll sell only a few books. Have fun.
