I’m not going back to school after all – maybe someday I’ll work on something I enjoy, but I’m not going back to get some job. After all, I own my own business, what I don’t know I learn and PLUS I teach at a college now (rolf). I mean, c’on – if I’m teaching at a college why do I need a degree?? :P

I had been battling becoming a morning person for years. I was in the army at one point as was up everyday by 5am at the latest – then when I got out I would stay in bed until 10am at the very least (not the best way to run a business).
As I mentioned before, I run my own business and starting the day off at 11a, wasn’t working. So one Saturday morning after having fun at the bar and partying with my friends, it was already 5am and I told myself “forget it, I’m staying up for the rest of the day” – staying up naturally that is, no caffeine, nothing.
By around 5pm I was praying for the sun to go down so I could hit the hay. Finally by sun down (around 8:30pm) I was sound asleep.
To my surprise, I woke up NATURALLY at 5am. I was so excited that I just hoped out of bed and started my daily routine. Picked up my coffee, checked my emails, etc – and I was already working by around 6am. Here’s the best part – I was done with work by 10am!! I had finished everything on my to-do list for that day by the time I would normally get up each morning!
The trick for me is to not get caught up in things and always start to un-wind around 7pm – no phone calls, no work, nothing that stimulates the brain too much. Then I get into bed by 9:30 or 10pm at the very latest – that way I wake up (naturally) every day around 5:30 or 6am. I don’t set my alarm clock to get me out of bed, I just have it in case I didn’t get to bed in time to wake up correctly.
After that one day of suffering, I have been able to do what i want to do … it was that simple. A little pain and lots of gain :D
P.S. If you sleep longer then 7 to 9 hours per night, that’s a sign of a deeper problem. I’ve noticed that when I’m feeling pretty down I can sleep for at least 11 hours (which makes you feel even worse). So if you sleep for longer the 9 hours, talk to your doctor!
