I’ve always wanted a tattoo but I knew that if I was going to get one it had to be something I wanted and cared about- not a random selection. I’d been through hell and high water and knew that it was the time to get something done. I created my own drawing via cuttings from magazines and gave it to my tattoo artist. I love my tattoo because it gives me some hope and keeps me going. I definitely recommend getting one, but only if it means something. It wasn’t too painful and mine runs over my spine. Just get an artist you trust, and someone who is exactly that, an artist. If you have someone who cares about their reputation and therefore their skill, then you’re in good hands. Good luck!

How I did it: I did some local trail rides but they were pretty flat and not very challenging. I spoke to a family neighbor who had horses and I got involved that way. She had me take care of the horses including mucking out, feeding, grooming. She was a great teacher and would test my comfort zone slowly but was great at encouraging me. It took me a little longer because I wasn't always around. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I got to the point where I just couldn't keep being anxious or depressed anymore. I went to my doctor and got the usual prescription, but I also got a referral to a counselor. I joined some support groups online too and did a lot of reading on the issue. My counselor was supportive, but didn't always follow through and would cancel appointments. To compensate, I talked a lot more to my family and friends to get their perspective on things… Read how I did it…
I’ve had really bad anxiety since I was a junior in college. It happened after I took a weight loss pill so I wouldn’t be hungry enough to eat cafeteria food! They were packed with caffeine and just pushed me over the edge. I really thought my life was ending that night and it was pure terror. Over time I’ve realised that I probably suffered from anxiety for a long time- like feeling nauseous for months on end and my ocd/depression/dysmorphia have stemmed from that. Understanding my anxiety though doesn’t help as much as I would like. I’m undergoing CBT at the moment but I feel like my counselor doesn’t get how important this is to me and leaves like a month inbetween appointments and is unavailable most of the time. It’s just the constant fear that they produce plus the fear of having one. It defintely eats up my social life and affects me in so many ways. I think I used to be happy before all of this, but I’d at least like to have the chance to find life without fear.
