How I did it: We're making a dramatic lifestyle change, so I'm having to rethink a lot of my goals. This one in particular will not be possible given our new plans. I really encourage everyone, even in urban areas, to have their own small flocks. It's good for the earth and good for you! Read how I did it…
How I did it: Bought a charkha, practiced, took a workshop, figured out how to do it. Decided it wasn't my favorite thing. Sold the charkha, and moved on to very nice drop spindles. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Instead of buying or leasing land, we've purchased and RV, and soon we will live there full-time. This will allow us freedom to travel that we've never had before. We'll be able to visit the entire country as a result, not just our own little piece of it. I'll live vicariously through others who are living on the land. In the meantime, my goal will be to leave as small a footprint as possible so as to disturb as li… Read how I did it…

From a time-off perspective, it’ll be difficult for Alexis. We’d need twice as much time off as she gets every year. It means we’d have to save enough money to allow her to take off for about a month without pay. That’ll be a challenge. I’m not even sure our truck and our RV would be able to take it. I understand not all of the road is paved, and we don’t have a 4×4. Even so, I’m making this a five year plan, shooting for summer of 2014. If we can do 6300 miles (Coast-to-coast and back again) next summer, we can do the AK Hwy!
On July 1, 2009, we’re going to be moving into an RV full time. During the school year, we’ll stay parked near my work except on holidays and weekends when we may travel. During the summers and perhaps the winters, too, we’ll be hitting the road and seeing America. Plus we’ll be spending much more time with our family and friends in TX.
During the summer of 2010, I’m hoping we’ll get to make the Route 66 trip. In June, we plan to take our RV from Baltimore to Chicago, Chicago to Santa Monica, and Santa Monica to San Antonio (approx. 3300 miles) in 12 days. We’ll stay in San Antonio for a month and a half and then head back in August, cutting across the Gulf Coast through New Orleans and Jacksonville, the up through the Southeast to the Mid-Atlantic, hitting Charleston, S.C. along the way. That drive will take us 1900 miles in 4 days.
Now to save the money we need for fuel, food, and RV site rental!
