I’ve learned to write 2000 kanji, now I need to pick up more readings, practical grammar, etc. I have several bookswith similar formats, “Reading Real Japanese” (short stories and essays), “Breaking Into Japanese Literature”, etc. I want to read something in one of these every day, if I can manage….

I’m using James Heisig’s book “Remembering the Kanji”, which uses a really good mnemonic approach to learn them. As of this morning, I’m up to 249 of ‘em, over ten percent of the way there!
I’m using the web site “Reviewing the Kanji”, at http://kanji.koohii.com/, to help with this. The combination is very effective! I hope to be done by next summer.

I’m very much involved in projects related to putting together a Linux-based system which presents the “Palm user experience”, and is appropriate to run on cellphones and the like.
Can’t talk a ton about this, but if there’s an interest, I can pass along what I can.
I’m also our organization’s representative to the Open Source Development Labs’ Mobile Linux Initiative, and just got back a couple of weeks ago from a meeting in Tôkyô (giving me an opportunity to get some practice on my Japanese).
