today was a very splendid day full of many positive things.
i visited the OT that i usually observe and brought her some sweets(i used to give people things, but i stopped at one point, and now i’m starting again), ran a few miles at the reservoir, visited my grandmother (i didn’t bring anything this time, but decided to exercise the power of listening), went to Walgreens and bought things with a gift card, ate at home, played with my dog, and watched a couple of episodes of Modern Family.
since i’m going to Vegas a couple of days after my NY trip, i was getting worried about my money situation. GOOD NEWS today is that my friend told me that we could stay at her mom’s place in Vegas which will save us a couple hundred per person.
AAAAND it’s finally going to feel like vacation once we board that plane tomorrow evening!!! I’M ECSTATIC!!!
i started planning our trip to NY earlier this morning and ended up going to bed at 5am! i’m ecstatic about this trip and i’m very happy that i got us started in the planning process. usually i just let others do the planning, so this is a good change of pace for me. it makes me spatially aware of each landmark and more confident about traveling this city.
also, this will be my second to the last entry for this goal. this goal has helped me reflect on my day and to think positively.
Today I tried pole dancing for the first time and it was so much fun! Even though it was a bit difficult doing the moves, it was such a great workout. The 1.5 hour flew by!
i treated myself to a haircut at the salon. i kept the length long instead of the usual chop-it-all-off. a lot of weight is removed and my hair feels great!
we still haven’t planned anything out yet!! i’m so excited :)
today i almost made a poor food choice of making ramen for lunch, but i luckily dodged it and decided to go for something healthier and more filling such as corn! as for the corn, i skipped the usual mayonnaise and shredded cheese and saved myself even more calories.
making the right decision makes me feel positive.
one of the things that i’ve been enjoying about working in one of the most impoverished and crime-ridden an area of my city is that i taught the kids to engage in leisure activities such as checkers and to play card games rather than sitting around wasting precious educational time playing video games on the computer or rough housing with each other. i’m doing as much as a can as a behaviorist (i’m not a teacher) to teach them some life skills that challenges them, builds their confidence, and teaches them good sportsmanship. it’s been one of the most rewarding moments in the 4 years that i’ve been working this job.
today is the last day of tutoring season!!! unfortunately, there’s a hiccup in the payment BUT i will be patient about it. i’m happy that i was able to tutor 3 awesome kiddos and i completed all hours with 2 out of 3 kids within such a short period of time. it has been quite a hectic month and i’m glad things are slowing down. in a few days, i’ll be done with my physiology class. in a week, i get a long summer break from my work. in less than 2 weeks, i’ll be visiting NYC.
in less than 2 weeks, i’ll be on a plane for 6 hours embarking on one of the longest and most expensive trip i have ever made. i have to commit to myself to these two things until i hop on that plane:
1. not spend frivolously (dining out/buying fast food)
2. exercise as much as i can!
I exercised for 45 minutes. I’ve been eating healthy/at-home for the past 2 days. it doesn’t seem a lot, but it does save money and gives me the opportunity to eat healthier (minus the klondike bar today).
I just finished 2/3 completion certificates for my tutorees. These certificates were actually suggested by one of the kids and I figured it would be a great idea to customize each one and give it to them on the last day. As a kid, I remembered how much those certificates meant to me, so hopefully these will be just as special to them as they were to me.
My friends took me out for a belated birthday celebration. We had a delicious lunch followed by a night at the comedy club with a hypnotist sketch. It was my first time getting hypnotized, and unfortunately, it didn’t work on me BUT it was fun nevertheless.
I’M ECSTATIC TO VISIT THE BIG APPLE!!!!!!!!!
i just set aside a few hundred more for the trip and this covers the flight and hotel. anything else i’m adding to this will be for food, transportation, and souvenirs.
i’ll see what else i can sell on ebay, list my textbooks, and recycle all the bottles and cans that are laying around.
in the savings! NY i’m coming for you…
i’ll also be adding my tutoring wages into this.
with some ebay sales and a rebate check, i have a little over $400 saved up
I didn’t spend a single penny today. I made sure I brought a healthy snack (carrots) with home brewed coffee so I could avoid the vending machines with less healthy options.
I’m really enjoying this ample free time. I have never felt so relaxed and content with my life. However, there was always a bit of stress over my financial situation looming in the back of my head. Fortunately, that will be lifted off from me because my work offered me a case. It starts early, but that’s a given working in a school. The perk is that the hours are shorter, which means I still get my free time. I also have my other job on the side to keep me alfloat. Things are definitely looking up… my class will end in about a month and a half and I’ll be ready to apply for graduate school.
Next, I’m going to recycle my cans and bottles.
I found a really good price on contacts online and used a 25% off coupon code which saved me $75 AND there’s a rebate that I will submit!!
I’m also extremely thrilled and relieved that I took my test today. Now I can have some free time to myself again.
