1. Zelea Gulam from Mbarali, Tanzania, for bulk rice for her restaurant “Mama Lishe”. Regular fare includes “rice, ugali (a hot sticky dough, made from maize flour), plantain (a cooked savory banana), all served with beans, vegetables, meat, and a variety of yummy sauces”. Um, yum! Where do I get mine???
2. Martha Sosa and her good buddies, the Martha Sosa Group (group loan), from San Pedro de MacorÃs, Dominican Republic. Martha’s had it rough living in extreme poverty all of her life, and is excited about the prospect of starting her own business fixing up and selling clothes so she can realise her dreams of travelling and getting her own house. Sounds fab – go Martha and buds!
Oh. my. god. I just realised, after about 10 years of wanting to make my own shirts but thinking it logistically impossible, that after using photo emulsion on a silk screen you can still re-use the screen! I bought a screen years ago and only used it once, having found the process of cutting out letters from litho paper with a Stanley knife to be waaaaaay too annoying. Holy crap, this makes for interesting proceedings! I see in my future self-made tshirts… Many self-made tshirts…! :D
