I bought a spare TiVo to practice on, identical to the one I own. It was only $30 because it had a bad harddrive (HA!). Anyway, it worked great, was fairly straightforward, now I have two functional TiVos. I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do with 622 hours of recording time…
