About seven months ago I stopped washing my hair, just to see what happens. I have long, brown, straight hair.
It took about 3-5 weeks for the oils on the head to stabilize and from then on all went pretty well. I combed my hair everyday and sometimes washed them with cold water. This is really important – cold water only! If you wash them with hot water you’re disrupting the balanced environment on your scalp and you can be sure it will look terrible. I have been through it.
Overall, my hair didn’t look as good as when one uses shampoo, but it was acceptable for the comfort of it, that is especially if your hair is long and it takes a long time for it to dry.
Before this experiment I washed my hair pretty often, which was about every other day.
I’ve now resumed washing my hair with shampoo and I must say it looks better. I’ll certainly keep the period between using shampoo to at least four days.
Another thing to consider when you stop washing hair is the cleanliness of your environment. If you go to night clubs, or parties where people smoke and the air is polluted, it will show on the hair the next day and the day after that.
If your hair is really short you don’t have to worry about how it looks, because no one will notice anything, so that’s an advantage.
If you have any questions, I’ll answer them in the comments.
Enjoy :)
