this year, i will actually go. i will get to cross something of this list of mine (as short as it is). i will say how it worths.
So, ya… there it is. The design I came up with and have been using since last August (or there-abouts). I will create a better .gif image of this for my profile. For some reason, it is being sized up and thus – blurry.
The evolution of my logo has been long in coming and can be seen in it’s penultimate design in the previous entry for this goal. Technially, having a logo doesn’t exactly get your name out there, it just places an icon on that name. However, I did win a Bronze ADDY for its design, so that kind of got my name out there a little more.
Basically, my initials are T.T., or T-sqaured. I am a designer and have used (quite a lot) a T-Square when I was a production artist at an ad agency. Seemed to represent what I do and who I am all in one.

Ya… I don’t think I am interested in really accomplishing this “goal” anymore. I am not entirely sure what purpose it would serve.
Besides, I lost motivation to post to it on a regular basis. Who cares what I have to say anyway?

Recently, I switched hosting services for my website and will soon be looking into actually getting Movable Type to handle my blogging needs. When that happens, it will obviously mean the end of updates for my current blog and will hopefully inspire me to blog more.
Of course, I suppose it would also mean I am to finish updating the redesign of my website.
Despite the transfer of blog “software”, I will also be repositioning the purpose of my blog. Rather, attempting to post more specifically regarding entertainment related to computer graphics and pixel animations (.GIFs) as I have ideas set on converting SPeCks into an animated series.
Recently, I have revisited my priorities. Not that I don’t want people to come to my blog, but with the new addition, I just don’t blog any more.
I think I might try to get a once-a-week thing going, but I am not promising anything.
To all you others attempting this goal, good luck! It is always great to have a readership. I never actually got one and some not-so-recent events prevented me from having open commenting. I know that hurts. I am around 150 away from 5,000 hits overall in the life of my blog.
For many years, I have visited YesJapan and have come right up to the point of joining this program. It looks like it is the best option…
I took a year+ of Japanese and I can barely remember anything from it – and that was only a couple of years ago.
Currently, I am not actively “learning” Japanese, but I watch an incredible amount of anime (Naruto and Bleach) in its untranslated form. This seems to help. I have picked up an incredible amount of the basic words, though the application and grammatical use of them is still a bit out of reach. I think I would just sound like a 2 year old at best.
Ganbatte!
For quite some time now I have wanted to be a better person. And even if I think I have become one, I will want to be better still.
There are a lot of specific reasons I have for myself to be a better person, husband, friend, lover, but despite that, I want to be a person I am happy with. Someone I want to know and feel proud to know.
People say life is too short for various reasons. However, I also think it can be quite long and if you don’t take time to be a good person to everyone in addition to those important to you, then what are you leaving behind? Be the person you want to live in the memory of others.
I live in Austin and am in the design industry — as a web/art manager, no less. Yet, I have never been to the conference in the fullest sense. You can read about the one experience I have had (for 2005) at SXSW Blues on my blog (killing 2 birds here).
Good luck to all those with this goal.
This is an interesting book, but it is all over the place weird. Ultimately, I didn’t feel like I met resolution when I finished the book, but it was still a very funny and worthwhile read.
I highly recommend reading this title.
I write extremely short stories. I mean really short. Would take you about 5 minutes to read them. Interestingly, many are centered in one little universe I created. They can all interact with each other in some way. The results of one story could be the cause of another.
So… I am working on connecting them together to form a bigger story. I have too many ideas and not enough know-how to put them together.
I am part of several, many, tons of forums. Too many in fact. They all vary across the board in terms of content, but there I am, on several forums. Some with accounts numbering posts above 500. That’s a lot of potential hooks to search engines.
With that said, I am going on a spree of making sure that my blog address is included in the signature of all my forum accounts. Every time I sign my name, it is a link to my blog. I have already seen some spoils from doing this. Even from this website!
So, when posting a comment or what have you, sign your name with a link to your blog.
My name is Terry Tolleson.
My goal is to have my name get out there and when people here it, they think of design and/or advertising. That would be nice. Whenever someone mentions my name, others would think about design.
I have just recently had over 2500 hits to my blog since I first integrated a stat counter to it. Unfortunately, several of these hits (perhaps 25%) are from the same people, or worse, from page reloads on the same visit. Not even sure why it counts those… Anyway, two thousand five hundred hits is nothing to scoff at.
I have increased my average daily hits by around 15%. I don’t think that is too shabby either, considering I am not famous in any way, what-so-ever. I will admit that posting a link to your blog (when relevant) when posting a comment to a more popular “blog” can be successful. I will give a small shout-out/plug to Greg Storey, of Airbag Industries , to which I owe the recent flux of hits.
I think pinging Technorati is helping as well.
I recently renovated my closet. Completely. New shelves, new paint, cleaner carpet. Because of the reorg, I created more hanging space, but I still had all these clothes that I knew I just wouldn’t wear anymore. As a side note, I am speaking for only my clothes, not my wife’s. So I packed up all the clothes in a big box and took them to Goodwill.
By gum, if that didn’t make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Not to mention – ALL THE SPACE!!! Glorious! I am now trying to figure out how to get my wife to donate the clothes I know she will never wear again. Which is like 75% of her wardrobe. Imagine the closet space if I could accomplish just 25% of this feat? Sweet baby Jesus!

Unless it is at a typical martial arts school.
Don’t get me wrong, getting a black belt is a great chalk mark on your board of accomplishments. Ultimately, by obtaining one, you should be more fit than the average Joe. You should have a good skill in self-defense and might even be able to do some incredible things with your body many just can’t do.
As worth it as it is to get a black belt, be careful you aren’t a victim like several out there. Those that got it simply because they attend a school that doles them out to those that pay their monthly fee. I was at one such school for many years. I feel I legitimately obtained my 2nd Degree, but there were many, many students that received their black belts (or higher degrees than myself) and clearly did not deserve them.
A 250+ pound, out of shape, fat guy can not kick my ass, no matter how much money he has sunk into the business. And you know what – he couldn’t kick my ass. And he was a 3rd Degree. Black belt my ass.

I used to be an avid martial artist (TKD) and made it to 2nd Degree before the rat race swallowed me up. I haven’t practiced any martial art in over 5 years and my body is not as spry as it once was (I was also a competitive gymnast).
My problem is that every place I have looked into is run purely as a business. Meaning, as long as you pay, they will let you “be” a martial artist. That is bullshit. I quit the last place because I was tired of passing people that shouldn’t have made it to yellow belt (2nd belt in the school I was at).
When I find a place that actually instructs people, I would consider going there. Fat chance of that ever happening.
That is the title to my current attempt at creating a comic story. It is an online comic and like so many others – gets no attention what-so-ever.
I need to get back into doing this comic. It has potential, I just haven’t had time to work on it since last June or something.

I read a lot of blogs. Mostly regarding design and the like. On the blogs I read, many have comments posted that number in the double digits easily. I am lucky to have 2 people (that aren’t my immediate family) comment on one of my posts.
So how do I get more people to come to my blog, read it and then comment to it? I know that I average about 13 hits a day to the blog, but they are merely passing by.
What do I need to do to not only attract people, but also retain their visit in such a way to solicite a response.
This “tagging” thing seems promising. 126 people have this as a goal. Who knows… More importantly, does anyone really care?
