decorate my house (read all 5 entries…)
BIG dependency

For me, I need to finish my organizational backlog before I invest any more in decorating my house. I want to do more painting, and I have ideas for every room…but first everything we own needs to have a home.

To that end, we’ve installed bookcases in the living room, and we’re adding more in a little-used hallway. I’ve revamped my home office space, and I’ve streamlined both the office supplies and the craft supplies. I have a small backlog of kid art to deal with, and sewing supplies to work through.

It’s hard to refrain from painting and other projects, but my focus now is on FINISHING already-started projects. :-)

stop biting my nails (read all 2 entries…)
two steps forward, one step back

The more I read, the more I bite my nails! When I’m busy with projects (organizing, sewing, managing finances), it’s not a problem. When I read, old habits (since childhood) sneak in. If my nails are in good shape, they’re more likely to stay that way. If there’s a nail that needs some cleanup, it’s likely to get torn or chewed before I’m consciously aware of it. :-(

Still, I’m doing WAY better than I have been. My best tip is liberal use of Band-Aids: if there’s a nail that’s short and uneven, wrapping it in a Band-Aid keeps me from picking at it when my brain is otherwise engaged.

read to my kids more
part of our routine

We had a good bedtime routine, but I decided that reading is important enough to modify our routines. My children are in elmementary school, and their teachers read to the class a few minutes each day. They love this, and they asked to do this at home.

Fortunately, I was prepared: I already had “A Wrinkle in Time” set aside. Now we read a few minutes each bedtime, just before we say goodnight. It’s great to snuggle up for this shared time, and I’m enjoying my time as the reader!
