I held a very small monkey that was a “pet” at a monastery in Laos. It was so cuuuute, and so delicate, and so tiny, and did I mention how cuuuute it was? And when I looked away it lunged at my head. I had this out-of-the-corner-of-my-eye glimpse of it leaping with all four hands outstretched towards my face. Luckily it was on the end of the leash and didn’t complete whatever action it was attempting.

Granted, it might not have been trying to rip my soul from my eyes – it could have just been trying play with my face (with all his sharp little hands/feet)or maybe it decided that it was a little cold and needed to make a cozy nest out of my hair. The monks all thought it was hilarious. I had the feeling this little scenario had been played out before.

So, basically I learned two things: 1) Buddhist monks aren’t to be trusted if there could be humorous endings; 2) monkeys are better on tv. Hmmmm… Monks. Monkeys. Shoulda known better.

At least it didn’t shit on me too.
