In April 2008, Elloway (61) planned and set out on a journey from Land’s End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in north-easternmost Scotland, using no other transport but local buses. The ‘Freedom Pass’ for pensioners allowing free travel on local bus services was launched on the first of April, giving him the idea – he’d already done ‘LeJog’ twice before as a cyclist.
I knew I could get from my house to some lovely countryside on a couple of local buses – one, if the one that inspired me is still going (the 292 to Far Forest) – but this man’s journey has widened my eyes a little more. And spurred me on!
