Made an entry and it disappeared! Hope I’m not posting twice.
I am having so much FUN! Using an easy bass to the twelve bar blues amd the exploring scales for each chord, I have found some of the riffs you hear so frequently in jazz and rock, Its only very basic stuff but great to be getting to know the keyboard – instead of having my eyes translate the dots into the notes required for, say, a Mozart sonata. LOVE Mozart, but can’t play a single thing without the music!!!! How embarrassing is that! Decided to dump written music entirely for a month so I can really get to know my piano.

Been spending some time on the blues scale of C Have found that little and often is good. Can now play 3 octaves with some confidence – also managing to use these notes to explore phrases and get a feel for improvisation. Now getting to know scales of F and G, and using these notes to try improvising to 12 bar blues.
listening – bill evans, errol garner and the bad plus.

learned classical style and enjoyed every minute of it – although I am not in any way a good pianist. I am “tied to the dots” and can hardly play anything from memory!
My dad was a jazz musician and I would love to learn to improvise and play jazz style.
