Truth be told, Cuckoo’s Nest turned out to be something I did not bargain for. It wasn’t a terribly hard show to call, but I had a very disrespectful actor, an audience member have a seizure requiring the paramedics and stoppage of the play, a cast member punch another cast member and quit, another cast member quit right before opening, and an ongoing battle with the education department head. And now I’ve agreed to stage manage Sound of Music next season. Well, I guess I’m a masochist. I liked the mechanics of stage managing, but I’m not sure it’s really for me in the end. I guess I’ll decide after the next show.
It’s a lot less work than directing a school show, though…

My balance is the lowest it’s been since college, and through directing, stage managing, and my income tax return, this extra income will go a long way to bringing the balance within a manageable and attainable payoff ratio. I’m so excited! I think it’ll be paid off this summer. That’s welcome news indeed.

I am stage managing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. We’re in rehearsals right now, but I’m not terribly worried about performances, being that it’s a straight play. I actually enjoy the process of it, and having just directed a show where I was literally responsible for just about everything, this will seem like a piece of cake. I have a feeling I’ll be able to say “this was worth doing!”
What’s really exciting is that I’ll be stage managing The Sound of Music next year. That will be a money maker! The offer’s official. I was also offered another show I had to turn down because it conflicted with Cuckoo’s Nest. I think this could be the beginning of something grand!
