A few years back, my father and I took a trip to Peru. We were there for two weeks but I would have stayed much longer. Our trip began in Lima, a large, dirty, bustling city. We flew from Lima into Cuzco and stayed in a WONDERFUL hotel on a side street (of which there are many) a few blocks from the main plaza.
Churches, kids selling postcards, amazing artwork, ice cream, local cuisine. We took the train out of Cuzco to Aguas Calientes and visited Machu Picchu. On the way back by train we were stranded in the mountains as there had been a mudslide which covered the tracks. MANY hours later after a lot of walking, standing around, miscommunication and losing passengers on the train to anyone they could find with a car to drive them hours back into town, we were bussed back to Cuzco.
I ate some bad food and was sick for a day.
The trip was amazing. Including the mudslides, the stomach bug and the blisters. I hope to one day return (with my father) as there is so much more to see and do. I recommend the trip to anyone interested.
