i suffered with from the age of nine until i was nearly forty. it is a medical condition, and the earlier treatment is sought the better.
they still don’t know enough about it, but certainly more than they did when i was a teenager. back then it was believed that trich did not affect the regrowth of hair. but, almost ten years after finally stopping i still have very thin hair in the spots i pulled.
i’m a redhead like my mom who went grey in her late fifties, we generally turn grey later than blondes or brunnettes. the patches that have regrown in the last decade have been white while the hair i never pulled has retained it’s color.
the cost of continuing to be a ‘natural’ redhead is appalling, but the alternative is looking like a calico cat. i guess if i’d pulled it all out i’d have white hair which i wouldn’t mind.
here’s a link to some good informatiom, but be warned you have to scroll down a little to get past all the commercial links etc. http://www.answers.com/topic/trichotillomania
