3 months ago I finally ventured further west that I’ve ever been: VEGAS. It was awesome. Also fun to experience what heat feels like without oppressive humidity. It’s actually tolerable! Who knew?

I once had a long conversation with a friend about coming from working class families and eating fast food. We both work in public health, but are still working on how to accept our own occasional fast food intake and other unhealthy habits that haunt us from our childhood.
After two years in the Urbanism program, I think I’ve got a handle on this. But my problem is still that I’ve become too cynical and not pragmatic enough in my thinking.
What with spending two years getting a degree at an Ivy League, as well as venturing out into hipster ground zero (NYC/Brooklyn), I have become a serious asshole and am loving every minute of it! Better yet, I’ve become friends with a bunch of other assholes just as intolerable as me! :D
I took my first plane-ride to Tampa when I visited my parents for a long weekend. It was cool. This doesn’t count as “travelling” though, because it’s just Tampa!
I guess the key to doing this is to enter a professional program where everyone else is really dumb. I’m pretty unhappy in/frustrated with my program, but at least I feel smarter than 99% of the other students, and some of the professors!
I don’t think I like my program at all and I hate all my classes. It’s only midterms right now. :(
I got a studio apartment up in Washington Heights. I haven’t seen it yet, since it’s university housing, but I hope it doesn’t suck! I’m still pretty psyched anyway, even though I’ll be living at least 30 minutes from anything fun in Manhattan.
Wheee! I just (finally) got my diploma in the mail! It looks hella nice in my diploma frame!
I move in one week, then I start orientation for new students. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I seriously cannot wait until I register for classes and buy new books. I was so tired of feeling my brain die while I worked the 3 months of useless shifts for minimum wage.
Back in business, baby!
Lately I’ve been listening to more and more Top 40 and crappy myspace bands. I know what good music is, I just need to listen to it more.
I’ve been in some low-scale UMD sports-related riots. Never got arrested or expelled for it, but then again I also just kept to the side-lines and split when things were getting intense.
Okay, this is purposely misleading. I have sat in the back of a police car, but it was only because I was being escorted to a court house by campus police to testify in a case.
I’ve never been anywhere outside of the U.S. :(
Top places I would like to travel to include:
London
Paris
Tokyo
Rome
Athens
Beirut
I scored a studio apartment from university housing up in Washington Heights. Should be just down the street from my classes. Psyched about not having to deal with roommates for at least the next two years!
I’ve gotten approval for my revisions and am off to print and bind the copies for the department ! Sweet! Feels really good to finally cross this off of my list.
I passed my defense! I just have to make some minor revisions and I’ll be done in a week! :)
