How I did it: Traveled to Barrow, Alaska during mid-September. Caught exactly one clear night (my last night there), and viola! I've heard that just outside of Fairbanks is the best geographical area to see the aurora in Alaska, but as it turns out the display in Barrow was more dramatic than what my family, who stayed just north of the Arctic Circle, saw the same night. After my trip to Alaska and the Arctic Ocean, I’ve been inspired to visit Antarctica and especially the South Pole. Now on to raising the exorbitant funds necessary for such an adventure.
